Setting up your HP OfficeJet Pro on a wireless network takes under 10 minutes when done correctly. This guide covers every method — from the HP Smart app setup to manual wireless configuration using the printer's touchscreen — along with driver installation on Windows and macOS.

What you need: Your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password, a computer or phone on the same network, and your HP OfficeJet Pro with ink installed and paper loaded.

Method 1: Setup Using the HP Smart App (Recommended)

The HP Smart app is the simplest and most reliable setup method for HP OfficeJet Pro printers on Windows 10, Windows 11, iOS, and Android.

1

Power on the printer

Press the power button. Wait for the printer to complete its startup sequence and display the home screen on the touchscreen panel.

2

Download the HP Smart app

On your computer, go to the Microsoft Store or hp.com/smart. On mobile, search "HP Smart" in the App Store or Google Play. Install and open the app.

3

Add your printer

In HP Smart, click or tap the + icon to add a printer. The app will search for nearby HP printers. Select your OfficeJet Pro from the list.

4

Connect to Wi-Fi

The app will guide you through entering your Wi-Fi password and sending the network credentials to the printer. Keep the printer within 3 feet of your router during this step.

5

Install the driver

After wireless connection is established, HP Smart will prompt you to install the printer driver. Accept and allow the installation to complete. Print a test page to confirm everything is working.

Method 2: Manual Setup via Printer Touchscreen

If the HP Smart app is not available or the automatic method fails, you can connect the printer to Wi-Fi directly from its touchscreen.

On the printer's touchscreen, tap the Wireless icon (it looks like a signal tower). Tap Wireless Setup Wizard. The printer will scan for available networks. Select your network name from the list, enter your Wi-Fi password using the on-screen keyboard, and tap OK. The printer will connect and the wireless light will turn solid blue when successful.

Method 3: WPS Push Button Setup

If your router has a WPS button, this is the fastest connection method. On the printer touchscreen, go to Wireless Settings and select Wi-Fi Protected Setup. Choose Push Button. Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on your router. The printer will automatically connect to your network without requiring you to enter a password.

Installing Drivers on Windows

After connecting the printer to your network, open a browser on your Windows PC and visit 123.hp.com. Enter your printer model number. Download and run the Full Feature Software and Drivers package. The installer will detect your printer on the network automatically and complete the driver installation.

Installing Drivers on macOS

On macOS, open System Settings and navigate to Printers & Scanners. Click the + button to add a printer. Your HP OfficeJet Pro should appear in the list if it is on the same network. Select it and click Add. macOS will automatically download and install the appropriate AirPrint drivers.

Troubleshooting Wireless Setup

If the printer fails to connect, check that you are connecting to a 2.4GHz network rather than 5GHz — most HP OfficeJet Pro models only support 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Ensure the printer is within range of your router and that your firewall is not blocking printer discovery ports (TCP 9100, UDP 161). Temporarily disabling the firewall during setup can help isolate firewall-related failures.
