Epson EcoTank Initial Setup & First Fill Guide
Setup Guide By Sarah Chen · May 3, 2025

Setting up an Epson EcoTank printer involves an initial ink-filling process that takes about 20 minutes but is straightforward if you follow the steps carefully. This guide walks you through the complete first-time setup, from unboxing through printing your first test page.

What You'll Need

Your EcoTank box includes the printer, power cable, USB cable, ink bottles (four colours), and a quick-start guide. Have a clean, flat surface ready — the filling process can drip if rushed.

Filling the Ink Tanks

Remove the ink tank covers on the left side of the printer. Uncap each ink bottle — they're colour-coded so you can't mix them up. Insert the bottle nozzle into the matching tank and squeeze gently. The tank will stop accepting ink when full. Do not overfill.

Initial Charging

Once all tanks are filled, power on the printer. It will run an automatic ink charging process that takes 10–20 minutes. Do not turn off the printer during this step — interrupting the charge can cause air bubbles in the ink lines.

Wireless Network Setup

On the printer's LCD panel, go to Settings → Wi-Fi Setup → Wi-Fi Setup Wizard. Select your network name and enter your password. For WPS routers, use the Push Button method instead: press WPS on your router, then select WPS on the printer.

Driver Installation

Download the Epson Connect Printer Setup utility from epson.com/connect. Run the installer, select your printer from the detected list, and follow the prompts. On Mac, use System Preferences → Printers & Scanners → Add Printer.

First Test Print

Print an alignment sheet: Settings → Maintenance → Print Head Alignment. Check the result — all lines should be straight and colours should be solid. If you see banding, run a nozzle check and head cleaning cycle before printing any real documents.
